So I finally had time to start this today. I've been wanting to try a slipjoint for a while and have gone as far as buying and watching over and over Chris Crawford's DVD. Then I watched some more and took notes. And on top of that, I've gotten awesome advice from a fellow knife maker I met on Instagram. The world has gotten so small, very cool. He lives in south Africa and makes tons of slippys. Anyways.
I decided to make two at the same time, because I'm mental.....One with SS liners and pins, the other with copper liners and SS pins. I'll do full micarta scales for one, and either wood or g10 for the other.
The blade and spring will be 1/8 thick 1075. I've been using almost exclusively o1 , but I ran out and had a ton of this sitting around asking to be used.
So, I took apart a Swiss army knife to use as my template. This photo shows materials and template.
Next a traced, cut, drilled and shaped everything, very rough. Oh man its so ugly right now and looks nothing like a knife, more like a pile of crap at this point.
It's time to call it a night. Most likely, Friday evening I'll work on fitting everything together a little better, and then grind the blade.
