Forged in Fire, whiskey, and Gil Hibben

Quite a while back I got the idea for a knife based off of my Forged in Fire episode. I used some W2 from my fellow competitor Rob Singleton. I was able to get a white oak whiskey barrel lid from Linda Hibben, the legendary Gil Hibben’s wife. I also had parts of the busted Qinglong Ji from Michael Kerley.

The final outcome was this Bowie, featuring a hamon, the barrel wood, and a Damascus guard that includes Mike’s busted spear. I have a stand in mind that will have more barrel wood and some forged parts.

This one will be available at the ICCE show in Fort Worth at the end of March.

Those are some clean lines. To my eye the blade and craftsmanship are much to nice to be mated with oak. Please don't take the comments the wrong way - it's a beautiful blade but I do think the plain oak doesn't do the rest of the knife justice. I picture a brute de forge type knife with an oak handle.

I’m with you there. That’s part of why I didn’t go more complex. Has to be the whiskey barrel, but that makes part of it plain.
