Glutton for punishment!

Alabama Demascus makes a good product! I bought some of their drops on Ebay. Made a couple nice Drop Point hunters. What paytern did you get??

I've had good luck with AD. You'll hear a lot "experts" belly aching about it online, but it's been fine for me.

The billet I have is mostly good. The blade is fine, but also used two other pieces to make a guard. One was close to the edge and there was a void in it. Luckily, I could shorten it and just grind it away. Ending up with a good first experience. Can’t wait until I get to where I bring that pattern back out!

Got the blade ground and hand sanded to 1000 grit, then cleaned and dipped to show the pattern. Tonight I will finish it up and go for a final etch to bring out the black. Made a big mistake, but waiting to see how noticeable it will be. If I can do this on a regular basis, then I am happy. This thing is clean and straight. The Damascus hid a couple of minor surface blemishes from when it was shiny. Might be addicted to the stuff after one try.....

Looking good Joe, waiting to see the final product.

Thanks! The guard was to be Damascus, but I used a piece from the edge of the billet and it lost the pattern. Scrapped it and put on some copper, then shrunk the other guard to use as a spacer. It will get fileworked and such.

More progress. Guard is shaped and handle rough shaped. Don’t normally use wood, but this called for it. Gonna clean it up tomorrow night and epoxy and Pom it this weekend!

For some work done to the spacer and guard. Little more finish work on the handle also. Too hot in the garage to do much else. Was hoping to get her together, but I will need a few days now that I gotta work. Thanks for following along.

That is turning out really nice!

That is turning out really nice!

Thanks for following along. I have learned so much on this one. Sadly, I know love the Damascus when I used to not like it. It will be more expensive, but sure does turn out a nice look. I have a week off coming at work due to a furlough, so ordering a couple more billets today. Going to do a stag Bowie close to this one and see if I lucked out here or can repeat it. Also had an issue with the pin on this one and time to start making them run to the end and using a pommel nut. I will be trying that for the first time next week. More tools!
