Hamon Pattern on the camp Knife

This is before tempering. Lots of hand sanding after that. This is the 80CRV2 steel, I think its about the same as 1080, from what I have read.
I think it turned out pretty good. The quenching for this steel had the temperature around 1600 degrees with a five minute soak.
 
What are you using for “clay”? I’m interested in trying to do some Hamons, still trying to round stuff up.

Well, when I first started knife making I was going to make my own little forge. I purchased some of the stuff but never got around to building the forge. One of the items I purchased was a container of refractory cement - thanks what I have been using for the 'clay'.
