Hex Anvil

I recently picked up a couple hex anvils. They have a bunch of different sized holes, and a bunch of different sized slots.

Can anyone tell me how these tools are meant to be used and what they can accomplish? It seems they are meant to do something with rivets and pins.

I've never heard them called hex anvils before.

They're bench blocks. You can also get them in plastic. Good for punching out rivets and that sorta thing. Though, you can really use them for anything. The ones I've seen are usually round. Hex is nice 'cause you can use the sides, too.

apparently the jewelers call them riveting anvils too... lots of names for the same great hunk of steel.
