I found a Bader I grinder that is close to me for sale. Is it worth buying?

I am wondering if it is worth $850
I keep reading and everything tells me that I need a variable speed setup, but I also see that most of you guys have several grinders in your shops.

here is the description:
Bader I single speed 2 hp motor used very little, like new. Flat platen, grinding wheels 8", 4", 1". small and large drive wheels, all mounted on a great stand

Thank you in advance.

I agree that it's worth buying.
Do run it and check the tracking and it's adjustment. Even if you don't change the motor, you can use it for a 36 Grit ceramic Hogger for taking off lots of metal.

You can check with our very own Wayne Coe, Artist Blacksmith, he has his own forum and sells Motors,Controllers and such. he could price out what you need to go variable on that machine.

it's very much worth buying! that's a Bader B2, the old kind, which has had some tracking issues. These can be mitigated by adjusting the belt tension. I have one myself, and paid a similar amount for it, and am very satisfied with the deal I got. That one appears to be in better condition than mine. Once I got the belt tension right, I've been off and grinding without a hitch. PM me if you want a more detailed review/discussion/pointers for adjustements, etc. My opinion is that it's too good a deal to pass up, especially with all of the attachments.

Well I have good and bad news. I had my uncle pick it up for me because he is only 50 miles or so from it and he called me on his way home to tell me that he just bought a grinder just like mine and that the rope broke and it fell out of the back of the truck! He said that they had taken all the pulleys off and the attachments are in the cab of the truck. The motor and shaft are good but it sounds like the frame did not fair so well. I guess I will see what the real damage is when I pick it up in a month or so. So my search will continue.....
