I asked this in another thread but it kind of got lost (I may have hijacked just a little:eek:).
Im wondering, other than Ti, what materials will work as a liner. I have some 416 that is .040 will this work?

You CAN use a number of materials for liners. I've even seen liners made with a number of materials, from 15N20 to 410 stainless... including brass. The issue becomes durability. The blade/liner lock area takes more wear and tear than most realize. Titanium has become the leading liner material because it offers a combination of light weight and toughness, without the need for heat treating.

416 will make acceptable liners, but it should be heat treated for that application (at least the portion that is the lockbar).

If a person is used to handling a folder with Ti liners, 416 is going to make the overall knife much heavier, and some would even use the term "clunky" when compared to the same knife with Ti liners.
