Magnet Fishing

Do you have magnet fishing with a rope tied to it in the USA?

The last few years have seen it here,

It is done mainly near traffic bridges which vehicles cross water and contraband is show into the river/canal when thieves have a problem and need to dump it

Can't say that I've heard of it even though we do have a long time honored practice of smuggling in the US, especially below the Chesapeake Bay and on the Gulf Coast.

These magnets are vey powerful for everyday use and if 2 stick together you cannot part them.
The stuff fished from river or canal is usually stolen and dumped.

Small household safes are found empty as they are easier to bust open.
