Mexican Loop

OK so maybe I am missing something but when I go to Knife Sheaths, I see the Mexican Loop tutorial but, when I click on it, I come back here????

Well, I can't help you - I'm not on facebook so don't have a clue. I'd guess it's a nice tutorial if we could see it.

I'm not sure what you have going on,I just checked knife dogs Facebook page and its there and went to knife sheath Facebook page and the link took me to the tutorial on knife dogs Facebook page.

I've got all the pictures on my phone and for some reason it always says file to large when I try and post a picture,I will get on the computer and see if I can figure out a way to post it here.

I have seen it. Very helpful for a guy that needs to try and make a sheath like this one.

In fact, I am the guilty party for asking for the tutorial.

Thank you, sir!

Mexican loop tutorial,I will try and explain how I did this without adding to much info as in basic leather work, and will continue the thread with photos in the comments.First thing is to make a pattern for the main sheath body and cut out your front and back to include the welt ,I'm using 8/9 oz veggie tanned leather.25994686_10213435927831307_564304617332259811_n.jpg

Next make a pattern for the loop and paddle, make the loop as long as needed. This style has a attached loop for the sheath rather than the cut slot style.25994713_10213435956112014_7714802766385551177_n.jpg

Next lay your sheath body on the pattern with the loop folded over to make sure the belt loop is correct and the sheath will set were you want it.25593908_10213435973432447_2919643713718699904_n.jpg

I'm using 4/5 oz leather for the belt loop and paddle and doubleing it back to back so there is no exposed back side or ruff side.lay your pattern out on the leather.25659444_10213435988312819_6035997574222622269_n.jpg

Now what I do is cut one out and glue it to the other and then cut that one out, next stitch the two together.25994941_10213436019993611_8763571359777501742_n.jpg 25659480_10213436022353670_5766163240479754804_n.jpg

Do the tooling on the front side of the sheath then stain and glue and stitch the front and back together.26001160_10213436070874883_7604470542245821689_n.jpg

Next you want to fit the strap for the sheath,I used 4/5 oz leather for this,I make the strap so the it meets in the center of the sheath, the Mark on the paddle were your center of the sheath is,next do whatever tooling your going to do to the strap and stain it.Glue your strap down to the paddle in the appropriate spot and then punch 3 holes per side in a triangle pattern, put something in between the strap so you don't punch through the outside.Next put rivets through and peen them.I made a small anvil out of scrap steel with leggs on the ends that i could pass through the loop and peen the rivets without marking up the strap. After that make sure everything fits together add your finish top coat and the if you wish a concho.25994561_10213436137756555_3459369303545548922_n.jpg 25593946_10213436140836632_8481308950550420419_n.jpg

Hope this is helpful for someone,Im not a leather pro by any means i just look at something i want to make and figure it out in my mind and go for it.Thanks for checking it out.
