My first completed knives

Wanted to start a thread on my first completed knives. I will try and post them in order, so you can see if there is an improvement.

Note, that I didn't realize that the blades had to be finished to at least 400 grit before HT. So when I got the first batch back, they had a rougher finish than I expected. But I typically make a more usable rustic type of knife, so the finish wasn't a real point for me yet. But since then, I've been working on a better grind, and better blade finish.

First one completed, purpleheart handle, 440c

You've got some great practical blade shapes and nice lines on those. I'm really liking the second one quite a bit. That's a nice pointy blade.

I'm liking the purple heart and the cedar for handles. Definately nice clean well thought out and useable knives. I have a lot to learn and a long way to go to get the same clean quality product.

Thx guys. Everyone likes number 2, I'm gonna make another one. Maybe a little larger.

Nice clean looking knives. Just an FYI, you don't have to finish your knives to a certain grit before heat treating, other than to reduce stress risers. Some makers heat treat their blanks before grinding. Of course things are slowed down, as you found out, and you have to watch over tempering on the grinder but warping is also reduced. Just the way one might choose to do things.
