New shop tools and a new deck

Hello I haven't posted on here in some time. Couple reasons. One I had surgery in February that kept me out of the shop for two months. And since then I've been working on replacing a very shabby deck. As a result I bought several new tools for the shop. So here are a few photos of what I've been up to.

Here's the deck itself

And here is some simple forging that I'm doing for the Bannister's and railing.

I think I've posted this anvil before. But it wasn't mounted then.

And a new welder to put all of the railing together!

And a couple items that are actually somewhat knife related
First a old/new vise

And finally I upgraded my home made 2x72 with a new frame from Boss Dog

Thanks for looking!

WOW!! You got lots of new toys!! LOL!! Railings looking good!!
Thanks Gliden...My wife passed away last year and left a small life insurance policy that covered all of it and then some. The deck turned out to be double what I had originally budgeted, so the extra money was needed. And my old welder was simply not up to the task of doing the iron work. And I can use the welder for other projects. The welder I bought is the ArcCaptain 200 which was rated the best welder under $500. It's really super-nice.

Sean: Nice work, that deck looks great! What kind of wood did you use? The railing pickets are looking good too, nice twists. You've got the right idea, buying tools is an investment that keeps paying dividends - particularly that welder.
Looking forward to seeing you again at the SLC Blade Show in October.

I'm sorry to hear the news involving your wife. But, it looks like you got a good start on the upgrades.
Thanks Dennis. Not all of the upgrades were necessary for the deck. I could have opted for wooden railings. My next door neighbor has iron railings on his deck. His were done by a commercial outfit. They look really nice, but I couldn't afford to spend the $20K he did on his deck. So I'm opting to do it myself. And as MTBob mentioned in the next post, good tools are always an investment.

Thanks Bob. The Deck itself is Redwood with a Redwood stain. The supports are all treated Douglas Fir. All of the bolts are stainless. And the hangars are all specifically for decking. I think I spent more on hardware than I did wood.
And I absolutely love this welder. It's both 110 and 220. I was having trouble getting penetration in 110. So I ran a temporary line from the dryer outlet out to the shop. I don't have 220 in the shop yet. It's on my list though.

And I plan to be at the Blade Show in October. Hope to see you again this year.
