If any of you use the above mentioned, just wanted to give you a heads up as Victor Machinery has it a very low prices and their quality is better than most. If you look at their stock the * denote a mark down anywhere from 35 to 5% off.

Regards.

Rudy, I've been doing business with them for a while and their prices are always better than good. For a while I thought everyone was paying close to the same price for their O1 until a friend of mine told me how much he was paying and prompted me to post this. If you forge, and are able to manipulate the thickness, atypical pieces tend to be super cheap. Also, their O1 is consistent and the only Sheffield, England steel that I've found here in the states.

Thanks for posting the link, I thought I'd linked the name but I guess not.

Mike,
For years I've always gone to Tool & Dye for O-1 and always found their prices lower than most. When I went to Victor, I thought maybe it was an old obsolete site or their prices were typos, it just about floored me. All the sizes I normally use were about half the price I normally paid. Thumbs up to you.

Thanks,
Rudy

If you keep an eye on them, they usually put most of their stock on sale at different times. A few months ago I got a 9/16 x 5 x 18 for 38.00 and since then, I haven't used anyone else for O1.

Thanks for the resource! I've always used Amtek for my 0-1 because I hadn't found anyone cheaper. Victor's sales prices (marked by either a *=35% off, **=50% off) are a little cheaper than Amtek prices, but Victor's every day prices are slightly higher than those of Amteks. Looks like it may pay to see what Victor has on sale when you order your 0-1!

Looking for heat treatment for O1. I would like to start using it and still keep the heat treatment inhouse. I have a propane forge and a toaster oven.

You need an accurate temp for 5-15 minutes. 1475 degrees, then a slow quench oil. Parks AAA or perhaps canola oil would work. I think you need a kiln.

Do you find that the quality is very good compared to Tool and Die.com? The sales prices are really really hard to not try them out.

All of the steel is marked, "Made in Sheffield, England" and thus far, it has been very consistent and I'm darn happy with it. I've made close to 20 knives ranging in 4" to 15" in 1/16 to 1/4 and no issues so far. I've tested a quite a few to destruction and am very happy with the steel.
