Oxy Acetylene torch set

My ancient torch set gave up the ghost so Im looking to replace them. I have a shoestring budget right now! Any recommendations on a kit to replace them. I mainly use them to cut thicker stock and localized heating for bending or to isolate a spot for forging quickly. Any help would be GREAT!!

I guess there are times when the torch is more convenient than the plasma cutter for cutting? I was expecting with a plasma cutter it would keep me from ever using my torch. BUT - I actually use the torch as much for heating metal as I do for cutting.

I wish I could offer some advice on a budget torch, but I don't have a clue. I've had my torch for almost 60 yrs now - done some work on it a time or 3 but nothing special. Seems like I did rebuild a regulator once. When you're talking about a replacement, or you talking just the torch head? OR - the complete assembly?

Oxygen regulator is leaking badly. I tried to get a rebuild kit for it. Welding supply store told me they dont have/make a rebuild kit for the regulator I have (bought them at an auction years ago and there were years on them!) anymore because its to old. So im actually considering just buying an O2 regulator and doing just that? I saw a Victor set on Walmart that is getting mixed reviews? There made in China and apparently parts to fix them are more than buying new ones! IDK what im gonna do. Not a huge hurry though.

So this is what I ended up buying. My torches are old 1 regulator leaking second probably not far from. Can't get rebuild kits for the regulators i was told by welding supply store guy? The hoses are checked and i dont have any check valves on the torch body. Figured by the time I got hoses, regulators and check valves i would be better off getting a new set! For just under $200 with taxes and free shipping I got these. Their supposed to be made by Forney but I have suspicions! We shall see!!

This looks like the set you got? https://a.co/d/2UaJN8C

Looks like a VERY good set for the money. You did good.

You questioned where the kit you ordered was manufactured - looks like China:

"Forney acetylene torches and related accessories are manufactured in multiple locations, including China for many kits and parts, and the U.S.A. for some specific components like cutting tips. Forney has also expanded its global manufacturing, with a significant plant in Monterrey, Mexico, for some operations, and its welding machines are manufactured by partners in countries such as Italy. Kinda figured that the other Victor set i looked at was more than double that! Love to but I dont do enough with the torch to really justify that!

Well I got the torches yesterday gonna try and get them hooked up today but have other things going on so will see. The kit looks decent but I guess time will tell!

Hooked everything up. Put the Rosebud tip on handle (mine are old Victor torchs, one of the reasons I got the Fourny they have "Victor" style torch handles). At first I thought they shorted me on the check valves but after reading the destructions it says there built into the regulators (not fond of that, but at least I have them). They work as they should. I heated up an old saw blade for an art project im gonna do. Quality seems decent and the kit even came with a striker and nozzle cleaning tip. Im gonna still look around to see if I can find rebuild kits for my old set of gauges (dont even know why, LOL!)

Well. I found the rebuild kit for the regulator. No issues punched in model number and BOOM!! 15 different kits popped up, $15 delivered to me! Im kinda ticked off at the welding supply store. Told me they didn't make the repair kit anymore. Im sure the one I got is an aftermarket brand, but I find it hard to believe he wouldn't know about them. Im pretty sure Victor still makes um to. Probably $60 though! Just makes me feel like the guy didn't want to be bothered! I admit they would go out if business if they had to rely on me! Just really pissed me off though! I probably wouldn't go back there if I didn't live in a little Po-Dunk town!

Bummer on not finding it until you got a new setup - I guess you could always return to Amazon. They brag about how easy it is to return stuff. I've got a couple of old regulators I need to look for a repair kit for. Like you, I'd just "assumed" it wasn't feasible to repair such an old regulator. Well, it's always good to have a spare :)
