Project I’m working on, slowly

I was driving along at work one day and this random spring, seemingly coming from nowhere, rolled out in front of me. Out in the boonies, no other vehicles or work trucks around for it to fall off of, so I jumped out and grabbed it. It looked brand new before I started cutting on it with a grinder.
Well, my oldest son had already asked for a boot knife, so I got started on it.

This is a bad pic, it was taken at night and illumination was a pair of shop lights about twenty feet away.
The blade is about 90% ground but isn’t yet hardened. Cross guard and pommel will be forged from the same steel. Handle will be stacked leather from a saddle girth strap with the pommel threaded on. Sheath will be made from the same leather. Only two materials going into this knife, unless you count the stitches that will go into the sheath.

Only problem so far is finding the time to do anything. By the time I finish 11-15 hour work days, I only want to eat dinner, take a shower and go to bed. I really need a vacation.

That big beautiful chunk of steel is a 260# Holland.
