So the character that blew up here was either a sophisticated Bot or paid troll.
Either way, he is gone and I think I closed all of his threads.

My guess is a bot or troll like this interacts on a forum to build interest and then starts with links, ads or other shenanigans. Hopefully we don’t see any more of these.

Actually in a strange way he defined what this forum is, a pretty friendly, welcoming bunch of folks....knifemakers.
right out the door he was kind of annoying, eventually speaking bad of our lawmen and the way the US generally operates.
none the less most were tolerant of him, then he just kept getting worse. I applaud the folks who tolerated him to the bitter end.
I got to say, the whole thing was like a weird sort of twilight zone episode.

He would have had to been a human operator, no? That would be a pretty sophisticated bot.....but admittedly, I'm pretty clueless on how that all works. Just the same.....great job shutting that account down. I smelled a rat pretty early on even when it was still knife talk.

I am not sure of WTH happened here but! I do know the tone of Robert66 changed! I had a few conversations on the side with him, and the last few threads were antagonistic and different in nature!

Boss, I got a question is your heading a typo or is that how the screen name was! You typed in this, "Robertt66 was a fake". The reason I ask is because I referred to a conversation I had with him when he first came to the forum!! It is still in my inbox and the screen name is different, "Robert66" There is only one t in Robert in the conversation I had with him.

That is one of the reasons I said in the thread about the "USA drivers license" he sounded less like the 70 plus man I first meant and more like our Iranian friend who shot himself in the foot!!! He corrected me that he was 76, I think. Something could have been gotten off of a bio!!

Anyway thought I would mention that about the name and how his demeanor seemed to change!!

I think it's likely his account was hacked. Whoever that person was, they then "stepped in" into the role of Robert, changed his password, and started creating the havoc we saw. If that's the case, Robert may be sitting over in England wondering what happened to his account and may not understand how to fix the problem. That's the really sad part about such a hack.

I was marveling at the "self -policing" that showed up on the site . It just shows me what a fine group of people that are connected here. I'm proud that you guys allowed me to join.
Agreed. Well said and as a new guy here I feel the same way. A lot of online forums would have deteriorated into a meltdown given those posts.

I may be too trusting but I also just thought he was a lonely retired guy (“pensioner” as they say) that was a bit gullible to the media and just wanted to chat with Americans. But the topics were just not appropriate and sure did look like trolling.

Thanks, andy

I really don't remember much about the member in question but it is what it is.

I appreciate this forum and the forum members here. There are other forums and there is this forum, where I spend 95% of my time.
