Here is a couple of links to some nice video's of historical information on the Sandbar Duel. At the end of the 2nd video are some nice shots of antique Bowies. If this has been posted before, maybe someone missed it. Enjoy.

I have met and talked with Mr. Edmondson who has a very nice collection of bowie knives. He is a wealth of knowledge and has written a very interesting book about the events leading up to and including the Alamo. There is a reenactment of the sandbar fight in Vidalia, LA every year at the annual Jim Bowie festival. I am fortunate enough to live about halfway between Vidalia and Marksville where the first bowie knife was made. You would be suprised at the number of people who live in this area and are not aware of it's rich history.

Absolutely great post. That is probably the most detailed and the best description of the Sandbar fight I have ever heard.
To bad there is not some way to capture the images at the end of the second video as I would love the opportunity to study the pictures of all those bowies at the end of the second video. :running dog:

Jim Bowie

That's great stuff Dan. I had always wondered why the fight was in Mississippi. After your hammer-in I took the GF down to San Antonio and really enjoyed the Bowie exhibit at the Alamo. It's a pilgramage every knifemaker should try to make. I'm adding Vidalia to my list of places to visit.

Thanks for posting,
David Crawford
