Staples

Does anyone have a source for (or even know what they are called?) the staples used on sheaths for the old Fairbairn-Sykes or M42 knives from WW2 era? You know, the vertically oriented ones at the mouth of the sheath opening where the knife goes into the sheath. Thanks! Mike

OK I have been waiting to see if someone was going to take a shot at this and since no one has. Are you speaking of something like this in this pic??
upload_2017-11-13_19-7-19.jpegAre you speaking of the what looks similar to a rivet. Such as what was used on this more modern sheaths. They had a head on the face side but clenched on the back like a staple! Is that what you are speaking of??

Here is another and it actually appears to be older. upload_2017-11-13_19-12-39.jpeg Here is one more that has those same type of rivet/staple!!

I have seen them used on older sheaths. A little research says that the sheaths were made both ways. Some were sewn and the rivet/staple used, others seem to have stitching only and some with actual rivets and sewn. It appears to have to do with the time period they were made.
I am not sure of the proper terminology for what you speak of and therefore have not been able to pull up a source as to where to buy them!! Maybe now someone will remember them and know where you can buy them today!! Good luck!

C Craft,

Thanks for the answers - yes, the last photo has the staples of which I am speaking - looks like an M6 or similar sheath - I've made a few Sykes-Fairbairn knives and would like to find a source of those 'staples' to add to the authenticity of the leatherwork. Mike

Did you go to the link, http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/m6_sheath.htm at the bottom of the page is a couple of more links, one will take you here, http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/m6_sheath.htm and the other takes you here, http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/reproductions.htm

You may be able to contact the owner of the site and they could share with you about the staples! Other than that I am out of suggestions! Good luck with your quest!!

Personally I like this one,

but, that could be just the dirty ole man in me!! Huba, Huba!!!

C Craft, thanks so much for the great information; you were able to find a lot more than I have been able to. I will look into it and post my results!

C Craft,

The person who runs "usmilitaryknives" gave me a company to order the staples from, in the UK - I just got two strips of them, and can't wait to make a sheath using them. Thanks again! Mike

No problem! Glad you were able to find a source, after I read on their site, I figured they would more than likely your best resource!!!
