Tapmatic and forming tap question.

I am about to pull the trigger and get a tapmatic as they are %35 off at mscdirect.com. What type of forming tap should I get (HSS, coboalt, coating, and such)? I am wanting to stay in the 0-80 to 2-56 range.

Thanks,

I always buy cobalt when I can, with a small H value.
Depends on what is on sale.

Honestly, once you switch to form taps, with a TapMatic, and the right drill, it's just easy.
Almost any tap will work.

I didn't see that they were 35% off when I looked earlier. Are you having to put in some sort of discount code? I have been wanting one myself and at that discount I would probably bite the bullet. Do you have to use it in a dedicated drill press or do you just chuck it up just like a bit?

Sorry for the short reply earlier. I am at work and had something to do.

I went for the threaded 1/2 mount because it was the most economical. I am going to be using mine on a mill but a variable speed drill press should work just fine and there should be no need for a dedicated machine.
