Thermal Cycling 1084 in forge

So I'm off and running on this forging thing whether the knife is going to turn out like it does in my head is yet to be determined.

My question is after I get it forged to shape I want, how do I thermal cycle the blade before heat treating it?

I was thinking I read somewhere to heat it up to cherry red and let cool to black a couple times but not sure would love some expert advice.

Also generaly how far do you take your edge down during forging before heat treat? I would assume about the same as you would or a little thicker than when you do stock removal but really dont know.

Thanks for the help

First anneal, then

Bright red-orange, air cool
bright red, air cool
red just above non-magnetic, air cool
Then 1 or 2 of heats just under non-magnetic.

If you had an oven, or other heat control,
1650
1550
1450
Then 1 or 2 below non-magnetic
