tooling and carving sheaths

was wondering - when you all (who do) tool and or carve your knife sheaths, at what point do you do the leatherwork? have you completely shaped, fit and cut the sheath to fit the knife it will hold, and then "unfold" it to tool? does this put creases or other unwanted marks on the leather from being handed and unfolded/refolded? or do you do it at some other point in it's construction? thanks, mike

Say guys...I had read that wip about 5 times a year or so ago...I looked at it again and noticed he never cut a drain hole in the welt. On sandwich sheaths I cut two welts as it is much cheaper than using a larger chunk of leather....I'm already going to have to make it two if I make a drain hole right?

An excellent wip...
