Twisted rebar?

I was out at the lake and saw some rebar sticking out of an old silo. Lake was impounded in the 40's, so the silo has to be older than that, likely pre-depression if I had to guess. The rebar was twisted, like on an old wrought fence. Any ideas about what this might be useful for? Any historical period info on when twisted rebar was standard? Planning on taking the hacksaw next time I'm out and cutting off a bit, could be interesting blade or guard material.

Not sure if it is twisted but when etched sure will make nice guard material2thumbs

I talked to a structural engineer. His only experience with twisted square rebar was from a building built in the 1920's. He didn't know if that was early, late, or whatever in the square twisted rebar phase. Speculated it would be mild, but that it could be wrought. I'll definiately take a hacksaw next time I go fishing and bring some of it home for testing. Anyone else know about square twisted rebar?

I have some that I found it is like a spring steel have not tried any of it yet
