Variable speed controls on a 1 phase?

Someone told me yesterday that they are giving me a brand new 110 variable speed controller unit. Or whatever it's called.

Can this be hooked up to the 1 phase motor that runs my grizzly?

For some reason I was under the impression variable speed drives could only be hooked up to a 3hase motor.

It's likely for a DC motor. You are correct, it will ruin your motor.

If you have a DC motor. Most likely it is not. For an AC motor you will need a 3 phase motor. You need to know more about the controler....and motor.

VFD's run 3 phase motors.
DC speed controllers control DC motors.

If your Grizzly is stock, no, it won't run the motor.
