Work in Progress

I am close to completing this one. It is a skinning knife with a 3 1/2" blade and an overall length of 7". The blade is 1/8" O1 steel and the handle is Thuya burl.

I don't know what others experience has been when working Thuya, but I HAVE to wear a respirator while sanding it unless I want to my voice to get hoarse and my chest to hurt.

Thanks,
Lee

Nice little skinner!
Yes, Thula and most woods are hard on your lungs stabilized or not. Micarta & G10 are the Devils friend as far as how damaging they are on you. They release Formaldehyde & other nice things when you grind them! You are embalming yourself breathing the fumes!
I recommend always wearing your respirator while working in the shop.

I agree with Laurence on this one. The only thing that should be going into your lungs is clean air. Dust masks are mainly for making you think that you're protecting yourself. I recommend a respirator with appropriate filters. Yes, they cost a bit but not nearly as much as a trip to the ER or doctors' office.
