I made a small fighter type for my 4th

I decided on a small fighter type of knife for my 4th completion. I'm not sure what I was thinking, not sure what you'd call this type of grind. It's a convex grind, with no secondary bevel. It's not a scandi grind, and I'm not so sure you'd call it a saber grind. Or would you?

The knife is 8" OAL, with a blade length of 4". I used 3/16 O1 steel, hand sanded the flats up to 800 grit, and finished the bevels with a scotch brite belt. This one turned out a bit shinier than I'd have liked. Thunderstorm Kevlar bolster, black and red G10 spacers, black linen micarta with red G10 liners. One brass pin up front, and 2 carbon fiber pins and a nickel silver lanyard tube. I hand sanded the finish of the scales through 320, 400, 600, 800, and a 1,000 grit sand paper. Then Rubbed the scales down with some fine steel wool.

I learned a ton more with this knife. I keep thinking the next knife will be easier, but they always present me with new challenges that weren't there on the last one.

Comments are welcome. I know this knife isn't for everyone, and there are a few things I'd do differently if I had to do it all over again. I planned on the blade being a bit longer, but the tip was too thin.

Looks pretty good to me.

The next one is always harder because you're adding new variables and challenges in to push your abilities and expand your horizons. That's a good thing and totally normal. So for this one being more difficult, I say well done.

Make a dozen, then go back and make a knife EXACTLY like your very first one. That's when you should notice that things are easier. Advancing your skills is never easier. :)

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to post a comment. It's good for a new maker to hear comments about his or her work.

Thanks for the kind words,

Don

Looks good Don, I think it would make a good bird n trout style knife. Your grinds look good and even.

You're right Justin, and I have one in the works. This one was just way too thick for me to call it a bird n trout.

Thanks,

Don
