Got this out of a junkyard for $30 last week. It has 5" jaws and the only marking I could find is ^ . Any ideas on the company that made it?????
A 5" with a good screw and nut, with the spring and mount should sell for about
$150.00. I have gotten a few good deals at junk yards but usually those folks know when their junk is junk and when it is a treasure. Are you sure that you were dealing with the junk dealer or some homeless guy that made a quick score? Ha!
Ya never have enough tools. Good score george.

Good find George! Just what you need, another post vise...
IG that looks like an Iron City to me.
Dan, now I can have a vise at all four forges.
IG, they were in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh but have been outta bidness for yrs.
I have 3 or 4 of them here. Three 6inchers and a 4". When I get achance, I'll take a picture of the emblem/stamp they used.
Iron City Tool Works was ther full name of the company.
Dan, now I can have a vise at all four forges.I'm cool
I am really going to sell the 4" one.
When I started blacksmithing I thought that I needed a really big vise so I kept buying bigger and selling the smaller one. Then one day I was working on a small project and found that it would not work in the 8" vise. Sometimes bigger is not always better. Now I have the 8", a 4" and a 3". They all have purposes. I also have two Cole Vises. These are made similar to a post vise but will swivel so that the jaws can be horizontal or verticle.
Remember: A Blacksmith (or bladesmith) can never have too many vises (or is that vices?).
