CPM154 with Timascus

This is one that I just finished up for a custom order. I've always kind of shied away from Timascus. One, because it's really expensive and two, because I had always thought it was a little over the top. But, after having worked with it, I actually really like it. I'll be using it again very soon. Let me know what you think.

Open Length: 7-1/8"

Scales: Anodized Timascus
Liners: Anodized 6AL4V Titanium
Spacer: Timascus
Embellishments: Hand-rubbed satin finished blade. Jeweled inside of liners. Timascus pocket clip. Star constellation motif on scales.
 
OK, I had to go back and re-read the post, trying to figure out the lines on side of the knife. I mean when I first saw the lines my mind is going, "oh this is a frame lock". Then as I study the pic more I realize this is not a frame lock it is a thumb/post assisted, slippie! Now you really have my attention so I go back to the pics and study them more. I had to re-read and found out it was constellation! Wow that is cool!!

Did the client order that or was it your idea? Either way I like it! As for Timascus it is over the top but your work and attention to detail is what put it there!! I like the shape of this one. Then again Mr. Robinson, I don't think I have ever seen one you posted that I did not like the looks of!

This knife is a liner lock, pretty much the only folding knife I make. The client wanted full scales of timascus, but he left me plenty of liberty to embellish the knife however I chose. I thought the raindrop timascus kind of looked like swirls of galaxies or something you might see in the night sky. I came up with the idea of drilling holes through the scales in a "constellation" pattern so the bronze-colored liners would shine through like stars, and connecting the dots with curved lines. I think it turned out alright. It's definitely unique.
 
Brandant, very nice. I said frame lock when I met liner lock, (one of those brain farts) I guess. No matter under what name it goes it is a fine piece of work and the constellation, was one of those things, that appsolutely set the knife off. You Sir are a master at your craft!! I have still to attempt my first folder other than a crude friction folder I once made for a re-enactor but, that don't mean I can't appreciate the good stuff. I might not drink Napoleon brandy but that don't mean I can't enjoy it when offered!! Fine work!
 
I think Timascus is one of those things that you are either into or you aren't. It's very easy to see why so many people ARE into it. You really pulled this one together in a classy way. I think Timascus with a damascus blade is too much. Paring the Timascus with a satin finished blade makes this one look elegant instead of way overdone.

Be careful dabbling in folders. Once you start down that dark path, there's no turning back ;) Thanks for your compliments.

I agree, John. I think too many colors, patterns and textures can make a piece too busy. The eye needs a place to rest. It's a hard job to come up with an aesthetically pleasing combination. I'm thinking that the next time I use Timascus I might pair it with some zirconium. I think the dark charcoal color of the zirconium will set the Timascus off while keeping the overall look balanced.
