I called the guy who I have been getting my eucalyptus from and went out ths morning to see what he had. These trees have been down for a couple of years so what I got today may be rain wet but that will take much less drying than sap wet. Will get the blocks broken down into 1 1/4 in slabs soon and see what I can get from them

I got the eucalyptus cut into 1 1/4 in thick slabs today for drying. Was a lot of firewood left over and even a lot of the slabs have a great deal that will not be suitable for handles but it will help to contain the good bits as it all dries. At an 1 1/4 thick there is plenty to take the pair of 3/8 scales from so any surface checking will be removed later.

Looks like you will have a scale or two in there. There's a lot of waste in making suitable scales from rough wood.

Yes I expect I will leave a lot of this on the shed floor but what is good wood will be very nice so the little effort that goes into it is well worth it for the results.
