Modified Bowie - Finished Photos

I'm calling it that anyway. I decided to go with a full tang on this one. 1084 steel and trying for a hamon pattern. This is just out of the oven and quench tank.

The hamon pattern came out pretty good on this one. This is right after cooling and taking it down to 180 grit.

Sanded to 800 grit and then etched for the hamon; before and after.

Every hamon is different. Some work. Some don't work. Yours is interesting in that you created a darkened area above the hardening line at the tip of the blade. Kind of weird.

I have never seen a hamon take an etch above the hardening line like that one. It is interesting.

Definitely hardened. To be honest I didn’t even notice that until you pointed it out. Still new to the rabbit hole of hamons.

I use a step drill bit from Harbor Freight. I use a lube and drill slow. I’m trying to get this one to balance just behind the ricasso, thus all the holes.
