I picked up some scrap stainless a while back. Its 3/16 thick by 1" wide and about 36" long. I think it's was scrap from making stainless steel cabinets. Its got a thin film of white plastic on one side but no markings what so ever. Anyone know of a way to find out what it is so that if I use...

Picked up a stronger spring. Solved the problem. Now ittracks beautifully. Will start getting a handle on grinding with it this weekend. Again thanks to all who helped me out. Especially Tracy. David

Ran it for the first time yesterday. I think I might have a tension problem. The belt wants to wonder when I apply pressure to it. I can get it lined up but still have to adjust the upper platen wheel its a little off. Let me know if I'm off in the wrong direction with the tracking.

Other than having to replace a pulley that was bad I'm all done. I did have one question. As can bee seen in the second photo. Is the plate for the Platen to far out. I've followed the plan, but it looks like it sticks out to far. Tracy am I correct or just seeing things. Again great plans...

I saw a video somewhere that a guy had mounted his motor on a hinged platform so that its weight would keep the drive belt tight. Has anyone done this or know of the pros and cons of doing it.

I don't know if you fixed your problem or not but looking at the picture it looks like you have a washer behind the angle iron on the bottom. Can't really tell about the top bolt, to much shadow.

I'm sure this is most likely posted here some where but I couldn't find it. What kind of business have some of you opened up for making knives. Sole proprietorship, LLC, LP or what? I'd like to start one when I feel I'm ready. Thanks David

I'll be finishing my grinder build here shortly. I was wondering what would be the best steel for a newbie to start out with for building his first knives. I plan on sending the blades to Pete's heat treating to have them heat treated. Thanks David

Thanks Tracy. So far I've spent $278 for what I've done. I did find that there were a couple items missing on the master materials list. The 1x 1/8 doesn't show the 6" for the tracking wheel bracket. and it don't show for the 2 x 9 platen plate. If I had read everything closer then I would have...

Thanks Walt. I guess what I'll do is set up a couple different hooks for new, used for steel, wood. Then toss them once they are no good for any of those items.
