Scrap Stainless

I picked up some scrap stainless a while back. Its 3/16 thick by 1" wide and about 36" long. I think it's was scrap from making stainless steel cabinets. Its got a thin film of white plastic on one side but no markings what so ever.

Anyone know of a way to find out what it is so that if I use it I know what to tell the heat treat people.

Thanks
David

It's 304. I'd bet money on it. Not suitable for knives. It doesn't have the carbon in it.

If it grinds and finishes okay, it could be used for bolsters unless you want a match for pins in which case the pins are bound to show different if pined.
