    Stone WIP

I don't own a slabbing saw but would like to buy or make one at some point. It'd be nice to make a setting for our wood stove, too, so there'd be more reason to do it besides knives. I did these slabs with a 4 1/2" angle grinder with diamond cut off wheels and cup wheels to get close to flat...

    Stone WIP

Stone handles have been an interest of mine for a while. I decided to get started building experience with a few inexpensive diamond abrasives. For materials I'm using rocks that I find so again - not a huge investment on it. I'd recommend buying slabs if you're interested in trying. It saves a...

What's going on in your shop?

I guess my son is only 13 and we're working on his first. That's pretty young in my opinion, but it's surprising what kids are capable of. I'm letting him do every step. I think it's good even if he never makes knives later. It gets him used to working with his hands.

    hand forged vs. production

I would buy this fixed blade from estwing. I didn't know they made knives. When I first got into making knives I had an AUS-8 kit hunting knife that I sharpened to hair shaving. When I asked the user how it did he said he made it through 5 animals (med sized game.) before needing to be...

    Handle material

I don't entirely trust mine either - it was also very slight. It may open up, but it has a lot going for it, too being stabilized with a tight rivet and g-flex. I wish I had set up for corbys though. The second fastener is probably the way to go.

    Handle material

Hi Aikenn, The two sets of stabilized moose I've put on to knives have done that on me during the build, but the bow was only slight and I was able to pull them back together with clamps, epoxy, and rivets. But this was on fixed blades so not sure how thin you need to get for a folder. I also...

    My new EDC for awhile

That is a good article. Even though it's short it's enough info to give it a try. Have you watched any videos on it yet? I searched "how to make birch oil" on you tube last night got the videos we watched already. They we're helpful, too - good to compare the amount other people get for the...

Search "distilling birch bark." It's a lot of fun to do when you're sitting around a fire.

    My new EDC for awhile

Let it burn for an hour or two - adding wood to keep it hot - not so much though that the bark inside catch on fire. I'm trying to load a shot of the size of the fire but it won't work. file too large, but, honestly, it wasn't that big of a fire! That firepit we have is about 24" diameter and...

    My new EDC for awhile

Thanks fellas. It's got a few details to be refined but by far my favorite knife I've ever owned. Here's the process: I cut and pasted this quote from another forum. I still have the link bookmarked if your interested, but this is the most relevant. "I cut anywhere from 12-18 face cords of...
