    Chef Knife #2

Awhile back I posted a chef's knife that I made for my wife as a prototype/test before making one for a customer. This is the one I made for the customer. I dialed back the heel on this one so it's as dramatic as the one for my wife. Some of the things I learned on this build were; it's going...

    2 Pieces of Advice.....

John, that's a good tip for those that don't have a surface grinder. I don't have a surface grinder either. A tip I received from Gene Baskett was taking a piece of glass, mounting it to a table, and then placing sticky back shop rolls of various grits on the glass. You can take your steel...

They're tempered but are not part of the show. From what I understand, the tempering is done by someone other than the bladesmith as well.

    1st Attempt at a Chef's Knife

Quick background on the build. A lady at my local American Legion asked if I would build her a 8-10" Chef's knife. Of course without thinking I said yes. Did I think about the fact I never did a flat grind before? No. Hence my previous post about the Sorrell's style knife with a my first...

    Texas Heritage Hunter

I liked the story of the knife's materials almost as much as the knife. Really looking forward to seeing the other knives you make for the Texas Heritage series.

    Rotary platen

Are you talking about the Moen Works Rotary Cooled Platen? If so, you need to go to Jerry's page and check out his video. I don't own one (too expensive for me) but it is pretty awesome in the ability to take a blade to the very fine grits (9 micron) without the belt bumps.
