Stabilizing Wood - Setting up and testing - Cactus Juice and Ultraseal

Tracey Just remember that 120 psi in that vessel is a lot of pressure. Hope you got full penetration on the flange(weld went thru to the inside). If not you can just weld it from the inside so that you penetrate to the weld that you put on from the outside. As for the weld on the bottom plate...

Stabilizing Wood - Setting up and testing - Cactus Juice and Ultraseal

Tracey Dyeing wood is a very long process I have found. I also use oil based leather dye mixed with 99% isopropyl alcohol. I will put the wood in with the dye and pull full vacuum for 2-8 weeks, depending on the wood. Spalted maple is usually good after 2 weeks. Curly maple takes about 8 weeks...

Stabilizing Wood - Setting up and testing - Cactus Juice and Ultraseal

Bruce Yes it is Bruce. I have lots of people using the wood I stabilize and everyone likes it. I had people sending me wood from all over North America to stabilize for them. When I got home each night, I would be working on stabilizing wood rather than building knives. I finally had to stop...

Josh Yes it is. Last time I purchased a manual for my blanchard grinder, I had guys tell me they had one and would send me a copy free. I thought I would post to see if someone had a copy of this manual. Otherwise I will order one on line and download right to my computer. Thanks Josh Jim

    One more question....

I espescially agree with what Ed says. I built a 80 ton forging press and thought that I over built it. I have a crack starting just above the center of where the dies press. Not over built I guess. Wont take much to repair this but If I would have "REALLY" overbuilt it I wouldnt have to burn...

Dana Hackney passed his ABS Journeyman performance test!

I was there when Dana passed his test and very excited to see his excitement with this accomplishment. I had a look at the knives just prior to judging and I knew he would leave with his JS stamp. Very talented knife maker. I was also lucky enough to purchase one of his test knives. Congrats...

cleaning 1075 prior to use in Damascus

It is not rubber lined. I just welded some paddles on the inside so the parts will bounce around on the inside. I put a bunch of steel circles that were punched out of plate from our iron worker. It has a gear box and a belt drive. It runs at about 60-80 rpm. I was putting silica sand in to help...

cleaning 1075 prior to use in Damascus

I built a tumbler for cleaning small parts I cut out with cnc plasma. I have about 500 lbs of 1075 that has rust on it. Rather than spend a lot of time grinding it off I put some in my tumbler to clean it. Works very well. Here's a pic of the tumbler and before and after tumbling. Jim Clow

Anyone else having problems with Norton Blaze...

I have a bunch of 50 grit blaze that I won't use. My wheels are covered in lumps that won't come off easy. I will try the goof off. I bought a truck load of ceramic belts from China. My cost to get them here, shipping included was less than $2.00/belt. They don't last as long as the blaze do but...

    Surface grinder belt questions.

Randy Have you looked into getting some of the pieces that require lots of material removal Blanchard ground. I am in the process of getting my blanchard up and running and have talk to lots of people on the eastern side of USA and there seems to be a lot of Blanchard grinding companies down...
