    What's On Your Bench...

Here are the next batch of knives I'll be working on. I just moved so I am still setting up my work shop so it may be a bit until I can get started. They are all A2 heat treated by Peters. One of these will most likely be my Kith knife, maybe the top one, but I want to be setup before I throw my...

    grind direction question

It is probably during the hand sanding phase. I hand sand vertically from tip to tang but I grind horizontally.

How different is a single speed motor vs a variable

It also ships from Canada which is a big plus. I could tack a couple hundred more on to the price if I bought from the US. It looks like I could swap out wheels too.

What about get a couple of 5" step pulleys from Boss? With shipping probably puts me at 100.

    just about 3 months.

I finally took the plunge to a merkur. For years I used double bladed razors because they were least likely to give me ingrown hairs. So I actually shaved pretty cheap, about .75 to 1.00 a razor. I spent 5 to 8 dollars a month. I recently purchased my Merkur 34 and 100 Astra blades for 60 bucks...

How different is a single speed motor vs a variable

I am looking to buy this grinder: http://www.suremak.com/grinder.html There is an option for either a single or variable speed. I am not sure how much more the variable is but any more than a hundred or two will be seriously stretching my budget. Just how important is the variable speed...

    2 new knives

Here are the first two knives I made with proper steel and professional heat treatment. Steel is 1/8th A2 and handle material is green linen micarta. The top one is a utility/chef's knife I made for my old man for Christmas. It is intended for his camping trailer. The second is hunting...

    Drill bit type?

Thats what I am trying to do. It turns out my holes are a tiny bit too small and I need to drill them out. That 32 of an inch has destroyed two drill bits last night.

    Drill bit type?

What type of drill bit do you use to drill into hard steels like tool steels? I am burning through bits like mad and it is getting annoying. I can't even drill a 1/4 inch hole right now.

Thanks. I was sure it was something like that but thought I would check just in case. I'll start sanding them tomorrow.

    Newly heat treated blades

I just got my first batch of blades back from peters. .. and they are mostly blue. I'm sure its normal but do you have to sand it off or clean it with something?

    Handle material question

I am just about to order my first batch of micarta for handles. They come in 1/8 and 3/8 inch thickness and I am not sure which one I want to buy. I am using 1/8 steel and making combat style knives. Should I go with the thicker micarta? That would be 7/8 and it seems thick but 3/8 seems very...
