    Knife Making Startup Costs....Need Input/Help

Jimbob, when you have YOUR own question, start YOUR own thread! Hi-jacking someone else's thread is considered bad etiquet , just saying, anyway, to answer your question, yes....and no. confusing, I know, but it all depends on what you want to do. If you are doin precision folders, you...

    WIPstagram - American Tanto progress

Erin, You are doing a phenomenal job on this WIP,as you have always done!! the first thing you say on this page was? What did you say? Please refer to my tag line, that has always been my attempted approach to knife making! I say this at great risk of the rest of the world knowing what kind of...

    W2

I'm kinda perplexed as to why they would agree to HT it that hard, the possibility that it could break very easily a possibility, I would suggest a couple of 1 hour tempers at 350 degrees, letting it cool to room temp. This should bring your Rc down about 2-3 points, now if this blade is a...

    W2

Walt, Mind me asking what you Ht'd it at time and temp before you quenched, your quenching medium and time and temp, for tempering? Ive hand sanded W-2 all the way to 1500 without a problem, to bring out the Hamon. I dont recall it being all that bad, but the recollevtion aint that good...

    My first completed knife.

'PURE', I'm not sure who your "mentors" are, but I am positive of where the inspiration comes from. Those are the spitting image of Ed Fowlers design, which is a great design for working knives, it looks like you have a skinner there that will service your cutting needs for a very long time...

Bruce, It made my day to make you "Actually Laugh Out Loud", It always makes my day to make people laugh, even at my own expense sometimes! Now about the Elephants....I'm dumbfounded!!! I can't see them!!! I guess I'll need a hint or 2, Ok maybe 4, I'm kinda slow! Unless...

    Arabian Black Gold Bowie

Bruce you said," The blade is dual mosaic Damascus", but upon closer inspection of this "Dual Mosaic pattern, I see 2 emerging images from the tip to just above the guard, the first one was of what I can only best describe as a cowboy/clown, while the other it turns out to be of alien origin, it...

Jon, when you say "weep", what are you referring to, the wood or the chemicals? Rex

Raymond, that brought up a sweet blade from one of our own Dawgs here, J. Neilsen! Standing prominently out front,(and a bit to the side on my iPad), is one FANTASTIC BLADE, looks like it might have magical powers even!!! One of the Meterorite Damascus blades he made for KD Meteroite. At least...

Jon, The only thing that would keep it from being able to be stabilized is dependent on the woods oil content. Woods like Cocobolo, Ebony, Wenge(I think), anyway you get the idea. If you look up a "Wood Encyclopedia", on line I'm sure you will find all that you need to know. BTW, The woods...

Anyone care to critique my maker's mark?

    J. D. That is so true, but I would like to add to that, that I have seen myself, and that was for the makers mark to be more legible. The specific one i'm referring to is one I have, the second custom knife I've bought, before I took the plunge into making, it is an exquisite folder made by...

    Knife Making Startup Costs....Need Input/Help

Actually, some of the plans for building etchers are twice as strong as the professional model I bought! I know that having it (I think) 24 volt can be too much, but mine, I believe is a 12v, its just not as strong as I'd prefer, and there are other things the stronger etcher can do as well...

    Shout out to "Da Man"

I guess since I'm third in line, I will....errr, "THIRD IT"! I met Ken back when he first started knife making, and what a complete JOY he is to be around, unless you've been around him, it's hard to explain, he has that quiet confidence thats rarely seen these days. Ken is always smiling and...

    Christmas gift for my daughter

OH!!! OK, I see it now, of you look past the sheath being there, and only look at (what looks like) a junction between the handle and a ring, its just a trick of the eye, or on MY EYE! Still a very sweet knife, one I'm sure will serve your Daughter for the rest of her life, with minimal care...

For real this time, fluted damascus dagger...

Travis, you jacked that one so Far out of the park, nobody is going to not like it, unless they were LUCKY enough to OWN IT! Then they would love it!!! I do, think, I know why you're working on this type of knife, and correct me if I'm wrong, you wanted to see if you could execute the hardest...

    Christmas gift for my daughter

I like it a lot, there is nothing anyone receiving this can dislike about it! What is interesting to me, is how you attached the (matching) Para-cord for, I'm assuming, a thong. Although it is in the forward position AND ON THE BOTTOM! It is perplexing, how and the reason or reasons why you...
