Suggestions for good clean bevels and ricassos?

Steady even pressure when grinding. The exact amount of pressure varies with belt coarseness and speed. Try to mount your grinder so that you are comfortable when grinding. Be sure that your grinding belts are tracking evenly. A wobbling belt tends to jerk the piece in your hand and blows the...

    San Mai

I love antler handles (mainly for the appearance) on a knife. Your desire to build something more than just a "user" is evident in your choice of materials and the way in which you put them together. Your passion is evident in this work. I like it, keep it up! Thanks for sharing.

Pics of knives I've made and WIP

I like your apparent attention to the details. I was told that if you take care of the details the rest will take care of itself. Knife making can be hard work, but the love for doing it can turn the "hard" part is irrelevant when passion is involved. Good work.

    Let's see your grinders!

I built my own from some plans on the internet. Of course you have to give it your personal spin.... Four years + now, and still going strong. (I need another one though)

    Marble or granite

I have been looking for a source locally to buy a large marble or granite block. I know some of you use them so I was wondering if anyone could help me find a supplier. I am thinking about going to the headstone guys...but I dont think they cut their stones to size - could be wrong. Help...?

    surface cracks

I have to agree with Laurence. Those marks appear to be machining scratches to me. It seems that there would have to be some serious flaws with your steel if you had cracking like this. I could be wrong, but I would try and sand the marks out.

    Glass linner for the platen

I think I'm going to try that. I have noticed a distinctive shallow spot on my platen where I profile my blades. I have also noticed the platen gets warm after grinding a while.

    Hello form Central Texas

Hello from northeastern Indiana.... Getting smooth even grinds takes a little practice. Make sure your grinder is tracking true..if not it will cause some jerking on your work piece. Jerking = not good. firm grasp, even pressure, and methodical passes on the grinder. You will feel it when it is...
