    Damasteel Trapper

Nice as usual Stan. I had no idea that black bone could look so good.

    S7 tool Steel

It is an air hardening shock resistant tool steel which is why it has the "S" in it. It is EXTREMELY tough but has poor edge holding.

    Caused of copying design.

I thought I made it clear about the profanity. I guess I was wrong.

    My 1st slip joint

I've been reading, researching, & bugging anyone who would answer questions about how to make slip joints for almost 3 years. I finally decided that it was time to get off the fence and try one. I want to thank Stan Buzek, Todd Davidson, & Bill DeShivs for taking the time to share their...

    Z-Tuff Chopper

A while back Chuck Bybee sent me a piece of Z-Tuff which is a new experimental steel from Zapp. It is supposed to be as tough as S7 with the edge holding of A2. We shall see because I'm gonna do a pass-around with it and let people beat it like a rented mule. I hardened it to ~62 HRC and gave...

Get organized! My spin on a 2x72 belt rack.

I got mine finished. I made a few modifications to mine. I cut my pipe 5" long so I can have 2 stacks of belts on the same hanger. Also, a 2x4 is the perfect size to fit inside 4" heavy wall pipe. Just cut them to the length you need and you can avoid the ripping. I cut mine 4" long. I have 9...

    10V & Black Canvas Micarta

10V at RC-63 with a flat grind and belt finish. 416 bolsters & Black Canvas Micarta scales. .163" thick at the Ricasso, ~7" tip to scales, 12.25" overall length. Weight is 13.1 oz.. Gonna test this one hard to prove that 10V is tougher than people think. I have a few testers lined up to beat...

    Finial Nut

Yep, grease, oil, & wax will all work. Brownells even sells a release agent for Acraglas to apply to gun barrels when bedding gunstocks. I'm reasonably sure it would work with pretty much any epoxy.

    S35vn heat treat question

No, that is a preheat so you should not cool it, you should ramp from there to Austenitizing temp.. In my testing, I've found that a preheat sequence isn't necessary. The preheats are more for thicker material like dies, shafts, etc.. Anything 1/4" or less doesn't really need a preheat IMO. I...

    Hardness question

I agree with Ausbrooks. Always remember that hardness isn't the only factor. Edge geometry is very important as well. I prefer to run a steel as hard as possible (within reason) and control chipping with geometry. I always grind a knife slightly thinner than I think it needs to be and if it...

Get organized! My spin on a 2x72 belt rack.

Thanks for the idea Anthony, I'll be making one before the week is out. My belt rack is a joke. BTW, I love your videos. They're informative and humorous and I loved that funky music in this one.

    Forged Hunter with Buckeye Burl

John, as we all know it is very difficult to find a "signature" look but you have done it and done it in spades I might add. I could see one of these little beaut's from across the room and IMMEDIATELY know you made it. I dare say that in years to come these may be as popular as Loveless hunters...
