    Working with Koa

Thanks guys. As a general rule I would rather use stab. wood over non stab. but I have some Koa with great figure and I dont have time to send it out for stabilization. I was thinking true oil should work, Ive used it on maple quite a bit with good results. Sean

    Working with Koa

Ive got some Koa that Ive had for some time. I have never used it that I can remember. I know this stuff is very dense, but I was wondering can it be used without being stabalized? I realize all wood can be used without being stab. but does the Koa have shrinkage problems if not stabalized...

    Linerless Folder Question?

I agree. Tony Bose uses them, but Reese Bose dosent. I think Bruce Bump uses them too. Todd Davison told me he used them on a couple of hundred of his and then switched back to just pins. Do some research and decide what you want to use. There are pros and cons both ways.

Please identify this CASE XX ...??WW2 "fighting knife"??

This is correct. Knives just like rifles were made by many companies during the war. Five manufacturers made M1 garlands including IBM and The Rockola Jukebox company. GM produced "Sherman" tanks. Knives were a little different however being that there were already several cutlery companies in...

Nice hike and field test of HHH knife

It was a great hike Randy, the weather was perfect about 55 degrees and clear. Your knife was great, from cutting a sapling to spreading jam. :)

Nice hike and field test of HHH knife

Had a good 4 mile hike on te Pine Mt trail. The trails follows pine mt on the Va Ky border. This was the first time I got to take my KITH knife from Randy out for a test drive. What a great knife. I had forgotten my walking pole so I used the knife to make one from a poplar sapling. It handled...

    Snap shut?

Yep, I agree. If the geometry is off, especially the relationship between the bottom corner of the tang and the kick, you will lose snap. As for the corners, I usually work them by hand on 400 grit. I just want to take enough off to make it work smoothly. You would be surprised how little it...

    Snap shut?

A good way to help with this is to use shims when peining. I use .002 shims inserted between the blade and liner when im working the pivot pin. This gives me some clearance so I dont jam the blade. Once I have the pin right I have .004 clearance just a couple of light taps closes that...

Design Phase of Hometown Hero Build

Denny I like it alot. I wonder about the grind, how about a compound grind. Instead of a scandi have a flat grind that turns convex on the tanto? That would make sure there is plenty of meat in the tip for punching through things. BTW I may be able to get over your way in a couple of...

    Snap shut?

If you have good snap at half and open, then your spring tension should be good. My guess would be the blade is dragging in the liners (but with the washers you should have good clearance). One other possibilty is the bottom corner of the tang either is rounded too much. Did you sand the...
