    Micarta experimentation

Actually those last bags we used peeled right away from the last denim we made Mike. I don't know what brand they were. Sharon brought them from the house while we were working so hopefully she knows. I don't know if they had a film or what but the epoxy didn't stick to them at all. I just took...

    Tool purchase priority list help

I would probably put the drill press and a disc sander above the kiln also. Send them out for HT until you get the kiln. You need a drill press for accurate holes and you can get things really flat with a disc sander. Both important things when doing your handles.

    Wannamaker Gun Show- Tulsa, Oklahoma

Thanks Mike, I think we are going to try and get there in the spring. I lived in Broken Arrow and Chelsea for a while when I was a kid and haven't been out there in years so it would be nice to get out there and look around.

    Spirit of Steel Show

I'm not sure I would call that a show, maybe a small gathering of knifemakers, suppliers, and collectors. I only wish I knew they booked on top of the gun and knife show, I wouldn't have done the show or if I had to be in Knoxville this last weekend would have been at the gun show. I guess I...

Is the show in the spring as big as the one in November?

    O.k. grinding help needed

I highly recommend Gil Hibben's DVD also. Gil's method of grinding is what allows him to do all the exotic grinds on the fantasy knives. I can see where rests could be helpful on some grinds some of the time but you are so limited with them. I don't see anyone who's knives have the curved...

    1/8" pins won't fit 1/8" hole

Use a drill or your hand to spin the pins on a 220 grit slack belt until they fit. Gives a good fit with something for the epoxy to grab. Done in a matter of seconds.

    Micarta experimentation

The West Systems is available at many marine dealers that do boat building and repair. It dries crystal clear and is a great product but as Mike said it's pricey.

PayPal, GunPal, GPal, who's yer Pal? Aaaarrrggghhh! Not again?!

It is disappointing. I was really hoping Gpal would be the answer because of Paypal and Ebay's stance on items. Hopefully Gpal will still get their act together but it seems to me this would have been enough time to at least make some improvement.

    lighting up the mill

Ed, what are the best bulbs to use in those on machines like a band saw? It seems the older I get lighting is more a problem, I don't have enough light or the light I have seems to cause shadows which used to not be a problem. Part of my problem is I'm too much a tight wad to buy as many lights...

Knife Makers, What Handle Materials do you use most?...and why?

Micarta or our home made laminates are the material that is used the most. Particularly on knives that will see use in the field. Why, because it's probably the best compromise between looks, toughness, and cost. Otherwise I use stabilized woods and a lot of stag but no particular kind of...

    lighting up the mill

I need one of those on my bandsaw, both my Bridgeport and Jet mills still have their factory lights on them and work fine.

Running belts on a surface grinder.

I have really good luck with the 3M yellow belts at the 60 grit. I can never remember but I think they are the 977 Cubitron, they will last forever. Seems like I've been using the same one for a year. From there I used to go to the 707E but more times than not anymore I go straight to the A45...

Rope Cutting competition -- what are the rules, best designs, steels, etc?

I believe I had Warren tell me they take the CPM-M4 blades down to .004 before sharpening. You need the blade right before HT because the CPM-M4 eats belts after HT.

    thumb traction?

A milling machine works awful well but a checkering file is actually quicker.
