    Wannamaker Gun Show- Tulsa, Oklahoma

That's opening weekend of modern gun season for us. I think it will hit on youth turkey weekend again in the spring but misses the main shotgun turkey season. I may try to make the spring show.

    Wannamaker Gun Show- Tulsa, Oklahoma

I have wanted to go to that show, I hear it is awesome. What I can't understand is why do they have it during November when a good number of the true gun and knife enthusiasts are deer hunting? Opening weekend for modern gun season at that, I'm just one person and that knocks me out. I know...

    Sheaths

Take a look at the leather forum or my forum to see some of the Mexican loops I've done. Ain't nothing more western looking than that.

    1981 & 2005 - Interesting Years

According to my recollection I have to question this. The Pope was shot in 1981 but he didn't die. That was top news when I was in high school, it was all around the time Reagan got shot and survived. I remember this happening during my Freshman year in HS. Lady Diana's wedding was...

    best steels for tactical knives

If you can get it Carpenter CTS-XHP is the cats meow. I think this is going to be my favorite steel with the limited testing I have done with it. It is a basically a stainless D2 done in the powdered process. This stuff takes a great finish yet will take a beating. I haven't talked to them...

    Testing a Gut Hook

I see mostly ground on both sides Scott but then I don't go out of my way to look at them. And Yeh, they do hang on everything. They are useful for the part of field dressing that takes a total of about 5-10 seconds with a good drop point and are a hindrance the rest of the time. It's not worth...

    Testing a Gut Hook

Scott, that's exactly how I do it and have tried with and without buffing compound. The fine cretex wheels leave pretty much a mirror polish anyway. I've seen some so bad that I took a carbide cutter and reworked it and worked my way down to the cretex. That method is for making the...

    Testing a Gut Hook

The geometry is as important as the sharpness in order to get a gut hook to work right. As Frank said you need the inside of the bend to follow the spine of the knife. The hook needs to be sharpened around to the point where it is cutting from the inside of the animal as much as possible but...

Hand stich vs Machine Pros and Cons?

The new ones have an aluminum frame where the old ones are cast iron. Many claim the older ones are more ridged and do a better job. I have only used one briefly so I can't tell you first hand but know the old iron frame ones are what people look for when buying one.

Hand stich vs Machine Pros and Cons?

Thanks for that info Chuck, I thought it also looked like smaller thread than we normally use. They must have used a very tiny awl. I agree after getting the hang I don't mind doing toe plugs any more than a sewn toe but I struggled getting the hang of it. Whenever I get seriously...

Hand stich vs Machine Pros and Cons?

Chuck is right, I meant the linen thread to be correct and you must either hand sew it or use a stitcher designed for it. Most if not all of the original Meanea late 1880's and later holsters I've seen were actually machine sewn so in order to be really period on a later Cheyenne style holster...

Hand stich vs Machine Pros and Cons?

All stitching is not equal regardless of hand or machine but I will say if I have to take something apart in most cases I would rather it been sewn with a modern sewing machine than by hand. Once you cut the thread it's not all that hard to get the machine stitching to come out. Hand saddle...

    Tennis balls and your dog

The main things I've heard against tennis balls is leaving them for the dog to chew. Some say they are abrasive and I can see where they become a choking hazard. I don't see how they hurt anything for retrieving with a pup but I never leave a tennis ball around as a toy for them to chew on...

PayPal, GunPal, GPal, who's yer Pal? Aaaarrrggghhh! Not again?!

I agree, I hate Ebay and Paypal's stance on firearms and other things but I'm not opening a Gpal account until they have their act together.

    Some pre hardened 02

Looks great, I hate hand sanding and hardly ever hand sand a blade. Hand sanding is for handles and no more of that than necessary.:noway:
