Wow guys, thanks. Bruce, it was a great visit in my fancy shop- shed:D To short though. I'm still laughing about the coment you made about your rent a car " bad for me image" Paul, your coments really mean a lot to me. I've never had the chance to see your work but everyone I talk to says...

    Hammer tapered vs straight?

Some of the mauls work best with a stamp that has a pretty sharp end on it (unfinshed or unrounded) It helps to stop glancing blows. I think Barrys tools are made this way and work best on his mallets. (I'll have to double check on that) I have lots of old Mcmillen stamps that have finished...

    arbor press for leather stamp?

We have a hyudralic jack in a press for our saddle trademark. It works real well on a round inverted letter stamp thats about 1-1/2". We use a 5 ton jack and it gives a real clear deep impression.

The Newell .45 cal front loader

Bruce, thanks for taking all the time showing your work. I gotta say the pictures sure don't do this set justice. I'll not forget the feel of this set in my hand and just how special they are. It sure makes a guy up the try in his own work, Thanks again. Robin

    Raw Hide sheath WIP

The best rawhide work I've ever seen. The sheath is so very cool but the handle is even more with the patern changing so many times. Most braiders can't even make string that small let alone use it. So very cool, sure makes everyone want to do better. I love the simplicity of your tools and...

    Two ?'s

Chef, do you mean stitching awl? There are a couple types of needles. The ege eyed harness needle is the one used for stitching with a awl. It has a blunt tip and will follow the hole made by the stitching awl. This is the one used for most sheath work, size depends on what thread you prefure...

    St Jude donation sheath

Thanks Bruce. You sure take better pics than me. Chef, The little slide knot is a spanish ring knot. The other is tied over a four strand round braid. I'm not sure what the knot is called but I just call it a heel knot. Thats the simplest version and can be increased to cover a lot bigger...

    Swayback Wharncliffe How To

Bruce & Bruce, sure enjoyed the visit today and holding some of these projects in my hand. Hope I didn't interupt progress much with all the questions. The colt didn't try to buck me off when I got home so all and all "a great day":D Thanks again, Robin

    Leather Handled Fixed Blades?

I think one other reason is leather is not what it once was in the past. Most tannerys can't afford to leave hides in the vat as long as they did in the past. Six months was the norm when I was a kid, that has been shortened to four or less and the process sped up with chemicals. If you bye...

    St Jude donation sheath

Thanks Scalphunter, only drawback to the carved one's is they are harder to wetform. I try to do most of it on the backside. Robin

    St Jude donation sheath

Thanks Dave & Kelly. I mostly build working gear but every now and then I get to play with something like these two. Sure wished I'd have taken pictures of some sheaths I've done in the past. Robin

First time ever working with leather...first 2 sheaths.

Way better than my first two sheaths, good job. Canvas for a burnishing cloth can sometimes be hard to find. You can use a canvas glove for small items like a sheath. Work parafin wax into the part of the glove that is the handyest for you to rub the edge with. Dampen the edge with a sponge...

    St Jude donation sheath

Thanks for the nice coments guys, I'm a new guy here and might be able to contribute a little in this part of the forum. Most other's I'm just gonna watch and drool:) Mike, the belt in the second picture is very old and in my collection. It was tooled by Bill Knight. He was at Ray Holes...

    St Jude donation sheath

Every year I donate a custom sheath on a trad archery website to benifit the kids at St Jude childrens hospital. The guys have a lot of fun and bid things up way higher than they should so I try to pull out all the stops and do the best I can for them. I have a couple sheaths that were on the...
