    Home grown leather tools.

Thanks guys. Feraldude, it's easyest learning knotes and braiding from someone in person. The knots have a groundwork and then you just follow the patern to finish them. The Bruce Grant books are a good place to start if you can't find someone who will show you. The bigger knots are a bit...

    Home grown leather tools.

I have lots of homemade tools I've made for my leather work. Just finished a edger that works real nice and thought I'd share. I started a couple but the one is a specialty edger for saddle seats so focus on the one suitable for sheaths. These are just scrap peices of steel left over from...

    novice leatherworker needs adult supervision

I would use a pretty heavy welt on top. The raised swedge will most likely wear on the welt. Maybe try wet forming a few scrapes and see how it feels to you. The guard may not be a problem at all. I don't know anything about Kydex but that might be a way to go. Let us know what you come up with.

Hand stich vs Machine Pros and Cons?

I have three machines, a couple big stitchers and a smaller straight needle machines. All three are great machines when tuned right. That being said I'd have to say I'd most likely not have any if I just made sheaths. My other leather work has and continues to pay for the machines not sheaths or...

    A knife & a Dog

Thanks guys. Both the dog and cat are females. Most on here might not know but Bruce hunts the same kinda country, we just have a State line between us. Lots of same kind of critters on his side as well. I've got lots of old pictures of critters but thats the cat in my avatar. Kinda fits here...

I'm glad you like the stamp Bruce, I use mine alot on saddles. Is that edger working Ok? I plan on taking pictures next time I make some tools so folks here can build a few. The talent around this outfit-- these guys could build better leather tools than are out there for sale. I'd love to...

Doug, I live just back from the edge dropping off into the Walla Walla country. I like living in the flat stuff and play in the steep. Hells Canyon is about as steep as I want to tackle these days.
