Thanks Scalphunter. I've got a long way to go when it comes to building blades, sheaths to, but sure enjoying the learning.

    Folder sheath

Thanks Dave. I'm trying to get my folders close to the older lockbacks I used to build these sheaths for. Mine are still pretty clunky but with some good coaching they are getting better.

    Folder sheath

Thanks Leatherman. The scroll cutting works pretty good on these wet formed sheaths, I can put it on after forming it. I do that sometimes on the fixed blade sheaths where I wet form around the guard and handle area. Blade area stamped and top scroll cut.

    Folder sheath

I'm pretty new to building blades, this is # 4 &5. Can't get what I used to buy for lock backs so I'm forced to try to build them. The whole reason for my love of the lockback started with a cowboy asking for a type of sheath. It needed to hold his favorite style of blade in a crossdraw on his...

    Nobody likes lockbacks?

I like lockbacks, used a lockback for 14 years while guiding elk hunters and still carry one today. That would make close to forty some years packing one and yet to have one fail. Kinda like a hammer in my book, use it right and your fingers are safe.

    Other Leather Goods

Really great gun leather Cliff. I think the guys doing the Sass thing have done wonders for leather workers. They have got top leather workers bringing great workmanship to a area that had got neglected and sometimes forgotten.

    Other Leather Goods

Thanks Paul,I don't know how long my hand will stay steady enough to do it. Do you know anyplace where I could see Rays work? My uncle showed me some small scraps with work that Jim Donaldson had done. He was a boss on a lineman crew and would doodle on scraps with a swivel knife. He had cut...

    Other Leather Goods

Several years ago my wife ask me to make her a purse that looked like a saddlebag. I came up with this design and have made a couple doz mostly as gifts. Some were full carved but the scroll cut ones seem to get the most attention. This one was a graduation gift for a buddys daughter. Most of...

Thanks Paul. The wade takes a little getting used to, kinda makes you scramble if a colt has a hump in his back. Sure is a nice ride outside though. Dave, The tree was sitting in my shop while I was slowly gathering materials to cover it. Thats why the guy spotted it and talked me outta it...

Not really fair cause I do this for a living. But I did make this tree for myself and a customer talked me out of it. I would have made it plain for myself.

    Wood bleach

This ones a good thread. The soda tip is a good one, one my teachers neglected to pass on. Makes perfect sense. One thing I've noticed is if you work with metal much you'd better really clean up before going into the leather shop. A good hand wash is not enough, you'll have metal dust in your...

    Wood bleach

Oxolic acid crystals. I have a pretty big jar that will most likely last my lifetime. Drug store used to get it in for us. I keep a small jar ( slightly smaller than a quart) one coffee stirring spoon of crystals to the jar full of water. Thats what works for me. I think most mix a...
