    Marble or granite

Mike's right Eric. I went to a local counter top place, they had a dumpster full of just stone up to about 1 foot square and piles of different size pieces on pallets. I settled on a piece of granite 26 x roughly 36 and trimmed it my self to 26x26, nice fit on my bench. Green's not my favorite...

    Loosing the drive ????

Don't fight it Mike. I have a slump every year myself, some long and some shorter. Life gets in the way. But making seems to come back with a vengeance once it's over. I know two makers right now who are doing the same thing and one of them is full time. It's easier if it isn't your livelyhood...

    Glass linner for the platen

Mine's black smooth tile....it'll go faster. :9: Make sure you radius the bottom and top edges. If you don't the top edge will grab the taped joint on a belt and peel it back. The bottom will do it slower but still peel it. Rudy

    surface cracks

I've never seen that on any blade of mine after heat treat. It looks like the whole surface has crazing. Try hand sanding, even if they disappear or blend, soak the blade in kerosene or diesel fuel for a few hours. Remove the blade and clean well, let it sit in a warm place for a while (no...

    Glass linner for the platen

Do it. It can't hurt and it'll help keep flat stuff flat. Last year I started using ceramic tile (12 x 12) that I cut on my tile saw. I'm still on my first piece out 4. The whole tile was less than 4 bucks. Rudy

    Large Stacked Hunter

Wade, Stacked leather has been not speaking, but yelling at me since I was a kid in the 60's. I build them in my sleep most nights. People seem to like them for the most part, maybe nostalgia. George, I listened to you on the last one. I built a makeshift tent with a sheet and pointed every...

    Large Stacked Hunter

Right Art. I've been doing it for years, it's like second nature now. I tried one with dovetail bolsters a couple years ago.... fitting the handle and spacers was a bit of a PIA. Thanks, Rudy

    Large Stacked Hunter

I took some of the advise to heart from the last knife I posted and it sort of worked. There's still some funny stuff going on with the flats and the rest is me not noticing the crap all over everything. It is frustrating trying to get good pics. O-1 6" blade/ 10 3/4" OA All stainless hardware...

First try with the new light box!

First attempt huh ? Looks pretty darn good to me. I've always thrown the knife down and shot it a few hundred times.....whatever happens, happens. I have a total disintrest in photography and it shows. I may have to rethink this light box thing. Great job on both. Rudy

    Stacked Hunter

Thanks Jon. It doesn't matter when I take pics, they always look crappy. The other thing that bugs me is the cloth I wipe my knives down with. It's a gun cloth with that G96 silicone in it, no matter how well I wipe them down there's always smudge marks somewhere on the knife. I can see them on...

    440C Fingerhole Protos

Aus, Make your own plugs from rod or plate, it doesn't have to be a perfect fit. I tried a couple when the craze was hot, it's pretty simple. Chamfer the hole, I used a Unibit....cut a plug almost twice as thick as your stock....start peening from the center out and alternate sides. The peening...

    My new pup starter kit.

A heaping pile of cudos to J. Doyle and congrats to you Wall e. :35: A lot of us have sent out starter kits over the years, what better way to spread the insanity than curse someone else with it. You'll do it someday too. Now the pressure's on....with all that stuff, you should be able to make...

    Stacked Leather Hunter

Finished last week but I put off taking pics because I absolutely S#&%@K at it. These are the best two out of oooooh a billion shots maybe. The blade and bolster look like heck but it really doesn't here in person. Anyway, enjoy if you can. I may be done with pictures for the forseeable future...

    Stacked Hunter

This one has been laying around for a week awaiting the inevitable picture taking session that I keep puting off. I may just give up on taking pictures.....nothing but problems and seems like a big waste of my time. Here you go anyways. Stacked leather washers. 9 1/4" OA. O-1 4" cutting edge...
