    Grinder belt confusion

Everyone develops short cuts Ed, once you shake the "mandatory " belt progression mandate. I personally go from 120 to 320 before HT without a problem. In this case I think it's a good idea for the uninitiated to get a grasp of what they're actually chasing because it is so subjective. No two...

    Grinder belt confusion

Wallace, If Trizac makes it, I probably have them all. After 1200, you're pretty much there and I jump right to the 2500 3000 and 4500. Keep in mind at this point you're not removing steel, you're surface conditioning and it takes just a few passes per grit before hitting the buffer. If you're...

    Grinder belt confusion

Although it gets pricy, That's a line-up that can't be beat for clean consistent results. I take trizacs all the way up to 4500 if I want a fluid wet looking mirror polish but 2500or 3000 will do. Everyone I've recomended these belts to over the years never had a gripe....except for cost. If you...

    2 x 72 belt similar to wet/dry sandpaper

http://trugrit.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=2x72+silicon+carbide&x=44&y=11 You're probably refering to these belts. They work great if you're doing a few passes per grit but they wear quick. If anything, the cork belts from 600 up give you the...

    pinched!!

Google 'crinking tool'. The old timers had a tool, basicly a forked skinny prybar, which they worked between the tang and liner on overly tight folders. There's got to be a pic of one somewhere, I know I saw it in one of my many books. Rudy

That's the problem Brad..... I was being sarcastic. Nobody does anything anymore unless there's a pay-off in it. No sense of community. Rudy

    PID programming for dummies????

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=programming+c-100+pid I found the answers to my PID problems here on YT when I did my HT oven, not the same as yours though. You'll have to wade through a bunch @&$^& but it's in there someplace. Good luck and bon voyage. Rudy

    Cork belts

I stopped trying to use buffing compound with the corks. After getting a consistant finsh with the cork belt, a few LIGHT passes on the buffing wheel worked better but you need to know when to stop. Go too hard and long and you wind up with a shiny/dull blotchy finish. Rudy

    Cork belts

Chris, Yes, any cement type block with a sharp consistent edge...no large voids or you'll have gaps in your finish. Don't over think this. A common red brick will color the belt and probably make it useless. Personally I'd go all the way to 600 before using the cork. I consider the cork belt a...

    Cork belts

Laurence, An actual 4x8 cement brick, they may be called 'pavers' in some parts of the country. I suppose a clean straight edge of a cement patio block would do the same thing. It breaks in my 600 and 1000 belts evenly and quickly with moderate pressure, don't try and stop the belt. Randy, My...

    Cork belts

Cork belts are great. Been using them for years with or without buffing compound. Best break in I found was to push a cement brick into the belt. Tilt your work rest back a few degrees and use a crisp edge of the brick to evenly dress the belt. Takes minutes. Rudy
