    Texturing copper scales.

The rotary tool with a small burr will work real well on titanium, 416 and 305 stainless. If possible have some material like a putty or even steal the kid's clean clay for back up. Frank

New Member question: Why can't I see prices?

Go back to the registration. And if you want to see prices go to the makers web site if they have one. I don't. Frank

New Member question: Why can't I see prices?

Where is the information that was asked of you in registration? It can help to make things more friendly to know. Why? Say you were from Mars. I wouldn't be making any sort of reply here. On the other hand, welcome to the Dogs ! This is a friendly, family type forum that is easy to enjoy ! Frank

What's going on in your shop?

Well, people I know you all will help. I'm absolutely lost on all this computer stuff. If I have more than one picture to send, I must use separate emails for each. I will have to see if I can get some help from one of my local knife friends. I have a huge bunch of stuff coming up. We are...

What's going on in your shop?

Well, here I am again without pictures. I sure do on the other hand enjoy being "in" with the crowd by contributing something. I today finished another double bladed liner lock with double stippled titanium bolsters and moose bone for the scales. They sure do look like ivory. I hope "the man"...

    Your input on disk grinders?

Hi Scott. I'm hooked to a fellow maker that has done loads of the rock work in the past and will make high quality knives with hard rock scales. He has told me those discs which I have some of are "get me bys" for knife work. The discs with the thin 1/16" - 1/8"thick cork covering work great...

What's going on in your shop?

Hey Daniel. I had some of that "pin stripe" Damascus given to me a while back. I used it in a liner lock. I did sell it at our small shoe here within a gun show. It was one on the first pieces a friend had made and was most pleased when he saw it in a completed knife. Frank

    A few more framelock questions

I like all of Tracy's answers. If the liner for the leaf spring is going to be .138 thick, you will need to thin an area near the start of the cut at the back to about .050 or so or once bent if you could manage that, you would never move it out of the way to unlock the blade. Frank

    Your input on disk grinders?

It would be difficult for them to warp Daniel. There are 9 magnets and the hub is 8" with the discs being just under 9" I haven't seen this . Frank

    Your input on disk grinders?

A disc with a I degree bevel creates a hollow; yes it does. Why would you use that to get scales and bolsters flat when it just won't? Beaumont has some good stuff, but his disc grinder is not near the quality with flexibility that the Rod Neilson has. Frank

    Your input on disk grinders?

I've had a Rod Nielsen magnetic disc grinder with a variable speed for over a year. I'm a slow learner so I'm learning more uses for it as time goes on. I even now have a disc set up to finish handles down to 800 which is nothing more than a 1" piece of sponge with the sandpaper on top of a 1/8"...
