I have noticed the same thing when using the wool dauber, but packing 4 cotton balls together in a scrap of tee-shirt and tying it shut worked really well for me to get a lighter brown. ~Noah

It sounds like your cookies aren't enabled, or maybe you got a bad one from here. Have you made sure that cookies are enabled, or maybe tried clearing your cookies and trying again? ~Noah
