    Prep for leather dying

I'm not a sheath expert, by any means, but I can say that wet molding (forming) can close pores in the leather and make it take dye unevenly. I generally assemble the sheath, dye it, put it in water until bubbles stop coming out, let it dry somewhat so that it will stay where I mold it, and...

    Dyeing leather

I have noticed the same thing when using the wool dauber, but packing 4 cotton balls together in a scrap of tee-shirt and tying it shut worked really well for me to get a lighter brown. ~Noah

    Apocalyptic Survivor Mora Sheath

Thanks both of you! I've gotten that style of texturing and coloring pretty well down, but I tell ya, the dual carry belt loop on the back was a PAIN! ~Noah

    OFFICIAL FIRST KNIFE PICTURE THREAD...

Can't see yours--I think your pictures might be set to Friends Only, or the link is bad--it just takes me to my Facebook home. Maybe try switching it to Everyone, or posting them on an image host like tinypic.com? ~Noah

    Please Test my knife

Hi Rusty, While I am rather new to this forum, I would certainly love to review your knife, but I understand if you'd rather I didn't :P. These sorts of opportunities are always great, and very informative to watch, so participating is sure to be fun. Thanks! ~Noah

    OFFICIAL FIRST KNIFE PICTURE THREAD...

My very FIRST knives I made were crappy little things made of mild steel and shaped nearly entirely with an old belt grinder with a bad belt on it. I don't have any pictures of those :P. My first knife I ever finished it this one from February 2009, but to be fair, I had a ton of help from Tai...

    Wasteland Leatherwork

Hello everyone, I do leatherwork, rather than knives (no place in a Phoenix apartment for knife making equipment), but since I can and do make sheaths, it's knife-related anyway :P. Here is my website for all those who may be interested: Wasteland Leatherwork Thanks! ~Noah

    knife sheath glue?

I use Barge Cement or some kind of Loctite glue that I don't remember what they call it, but it's in a white tube and seems to be even stronger than Barge, surprisingly. I have also heard good things about Tanner's Bond Leather Cement. As far as snake skin, I don't have any experience there...

    Apocalyptic Survivor Mora Sheath

Hello everyone, I typically just lurk around here, but I figured I might as well post this, even though putting my work up next to the work of some of the people on here is pretty intimidating :P. I just finished this Mora #1 sheath for a swap event on another forum. It is made of 7-9oz...

    Other Leather Goods

You guys are way beyond my level, but why not? I'll throw up a couple pics, I guess :P A harness for our bassedor: A business card case for myself: A distressed bracelet: A distressed wrist cuff: A plain brown belt: A heavy duty dog collar: Thanks for looking...

    What's your production EDC today?

Some of you have already seen it in the slipjoint thread in Custom Knives, but that's okay, I suppose. My EDC knife is this Colonial jack knife--it's a little cleaner and sharper now, but don't worry, I only used steel wool and very fine grit sandpaper to clean the gunk--no reprofiling here...

    New to KnifeDogs

Thanks everyone! And Tracy, I will be attending a seminar he is having in March (I think it's March, anyway) with Ray Richard. I would attend more events and take more classes from him if I could afford to, but I can't justify paying that much too often, unfortunately. ~Noah

    New to KnifeDogs

Hello Everyone, My name is Noah, and I had thought I was on pretty much every knife related forum out there, but apparently I missed a great one! I currently live in Phoenix, AZ (though I used to live in the middle of the country in Illinois), and while I have made a couple crude knives (and...

    Lets see your slipjoint

My Colonial jack knife I snagged off of fleaBay a month or two ago: I've cleaned it up a little more and sharpened it since the picture, since it was pretty corroded and gunky when I got it ~Noah
