    First forged blade

Great job with the knife! The ABS weekend in Maine was a blast! especially when Butch had his hammer explode! I got out bid on everything at the auction. So I gave the rest of my money to Aldo and came home with a pile of steel. Ernie

First sheath, need some advice please.

With Tim's approach the sewing needle is pushed thru the leather with the drill press (un plugged of course) when you pull the needle up slightly a loop is formed and you stick a second thread through the loop then you back the needle all the way out and move to the next spot making sure the...

First sheath, need some advice please.

I would use a chain stitch with the sewing needle in my drill press as shown in the Tim Lively "knife making unplugged" DVD. Then you won't need a vise. ernie

    broke my Mayer 50lb hammer

Does anyone sell replacement arms? The threads stripped off one of the arms making the nut and spring fly across the shop. The arm is a straight piece with a T on one end and threaded on the other. Ernie

    dizzy while forging

That is good information. My CO detector is in an outlet about the height of my workbench. My exhaust fan is mounted high at the peak of the roof. As for differences... I was running the forge richer than normal and I threw in some charcoal to consume the extra oxygen and minimize scale...

I was huffing and puffing like being on a stair climber, mild headache and nausea. After taking a couple hours off I fired up the forge again experienced the same thing again. I started to realize it was something more than the heat. Ernie

    dizzy while forging

Yesterday I got so dizzy I couldn't stand up. I shut down the gas forge and sat down outside. I think it was carbon monoxide poisoning, even though I had two fans running, the doors were open as was the window. Today I bought a CO monitor with a digital display and found that CO level 20...

    Shane Stainton

I saw him at a gun & knife show over a year ago. He looked so down and out that I bought a blade from him. I don't think there is much of a market around here for primitive style knives. People were buying shiny Chinese knives at give away prices.

Summer Time, Where is it Nice ?

I've been through Bath a couple of times. We usually go camping at Seneca lake every summer, there is a vineyard every 5 miles or so in the finger lakes. We do wine tasting just around Seneca lake and haven't hit them all yet and there are several more lakes surrounded by vineyards that we...
