    VFD's - Need Information

Fluidsteel, I didn't know that about setting the VFD to 2x speed. Thank's for the clarification. When I talked to the EERF designer (which the GIB is based upon) he probably assumed that I would not be using a VFD. At any rate that's good to know and demonstrates how flexible the KBAC27D is...

    VFD's - Need Information

Jamie, I used the KB Electronics KBAC-27D on my GIB. It is the VFD that Beaumont Metal Works sell with the KMG, which a friend of mine has, so I knew it worked. I know nothing about these things, but the VFD was very easy to set up and works perfect. One phase in and three phase out to the...

"My very first knife" - post up!

Sebspeed: That's cool shows some thinking out of the box. Me, I'm not so original. Here's my first second and third in descending order. The first isn't really a "knife" its soft steel that a friend gave me. I leave it unsharpened in the den where the kids, son and friends, hang out. Always...

Knife Making Materials for Christmas Gift

Mrs. Jones: I'm probably partial to this forum, but I have to say everybody is first class, never a mean or sarcastic comment. The members welcome all new comers and are glad to give advise. Tell your son the old adage the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. He will find friends here...

    One for the dishwasher

It has been through the dishwasher, but the Aluminum loses that polished look and becomes "hazy", which improves the grip, but is not as "pretty." I prefer to hand wash it whenever I use it.

Will a 16" contact wheel work on a KMG? What happens to the tracking?

Beaumont Metal Works (company that makes the KMG) has a sub forum at Knife Dogs. They may answer your question, or call them directly. They were very helpful to me and I was only buying a few parts for a GIB. I'm sure that they would be glad to help you.

    Question about grinding...

Ha! Well that pictures not much help. I'll try another.

    Question about grinding...

Redfishin, I am not quite sure what you mean. But after marking the center line I grind from the ricaso to the tip. As I grind and get closer to the tip I put more pressure on the blade so that the grinder takes more off as the bevel gets closer to the center line of the tip. This naturally...

    question for a beginner?

For whatever its worth, I think this is really a good question and why this sub-forum exists. I was wondering the same question about scales on slip joint folders.

    Another Sheath

Beautiful sheath, but let me ask a stupid question. How do you get the "smooth" side out on the belt loop? I made a pouch sheath but the rough side of the leather faces out when I fold the belt loop over. Do you "laminate" a piece? If so what thickness?

    My GIB Build

Paul, Now I remember that discrepancy in the instructions. I drilled where Jack describes above, that is the farthest from the 1/2" hole, as in the picture with the item in the vise, and it worked out fine. Actually the kit is so forgiving you probably could drill both holes, instead of one...

    My GIB Build

Paul, I don't have the instructions, but I think you're referring to what is in the picture below. If so maybe the picture will help. Also it is somewhat instructive of another point. When you drill the holes to be tapped drill all the way through the piece, in this case the arm. I didn't and...

What is the easiest stainless steel to heat treat?

PetrifiedWood: you should try this question in the heat treating forum. I'm lucky my neighbor has the Evenheat kiln and we've done CPM 154 and 440C and several other stainless steels. We do plate quench and others could advise as to whether that is really significant. I think fresh air quench...

    My GIB Build

"The spring isn't attached to anything. In the image showing the spring, I built a "holder" (the knurled portion) for the spring to fit down over, and the threaded rod makes it adjustable. It's positioned/aligned so that the idler arm sits directly on top of the spring.....no need for any...

    My GIB Build

As someone who knows nothing about VFD's or wiring, I chose the KBAC 27 I think its called. Any way, its the one that is in Ed's picture and t comes with the Beaumont KMG Grinder. It was very easy to wire and set up. And I say this as a guy who tripped a 240v circuit breaker three times trying...

Some more newbie questions, grind angles and loveless bolts

I don't know anything about the degree angle question that you ask, but as to the depth to set the "loveless" nut, see my thread "Help my loveless nut fell off!" in this sub-forum. Now I set the nut to about 1/16" from the tang. Why do you want to use gorilla glue? I use epoxy that gets all...
