    2mm stainless steel spring material

Thanks. I went to a hobby shop and found some 0.078". I watched your slip joint making videos and really liked them. I was looking to make a Lanny's Clip knife and I left a message on your website regarding your plan.

    2mm stainless steel spring material

I bought a book on making lockback knives and 2mm stainless steel (1.4310 steel) is recommended. Where could I find this material, or a North American equivalent. Thanks in advance.

How do you make your "Flats" ??

I finish my flats to whatever grit on the platen, heat treat and then (usually) bead blast the blank then grind. Other wise I will clean up the heat treat on the platen with the same belt I finished with and then grind. I never touch the flats after grinding. These are some Murray Carter...

    Lockback question

Thanks. That makes life a lot simpler. What material should I use to make the spring? A dumb question but....with the lock bar being that hard could it be prone to wear or deformation? I watched a video and a guy said when you hear the ping sound when the lock engages it means they are the same...

    Lockback question

I'm planning on making a lockback knife and was wondering what steel I should use for the back bar. I'll be using AEB-L for the blade (61-62Rc) and was going to use the same for the back bar, but can't find a recipe to heat treat/temper it to 49-50Rc. I'm not opposed to using some other type of...

    Full stainless friction folder

LOL. You can definitely tell it's in your pocket, but it's not terrible. I might make a belt sheath for it, haven't decided on it yet though.

    Full stainless friction folder

Thanks gentlemen. As per my kitchen scale the knife weighs 218 grams or 7.6 ounces.

    Full stainless friction folder

Thanks. I finished it and made a thread in the folders forum. It turned out OK. I chamfered the scale edges free hand so they are rough and inconsistent, I was going for a industrial kind of look so it fits.

    Didn't have any.

    Full stainless friction folder

I finished this friction folder today. I'm kind of happy with it but, it's probably my crappiest grind to date. I ground the AEB-L in the annealed state and will not be doing that again. It's got some flex to it and my grind did not stay consistent. A good learning experience. I used all...

    Full stainless friction folder

I had one of those 'I wonder what it would be like' ideas and tried making a full stainless friction folder. Normally I grind AEB-L after the heat treat, but this time I tried it before. It's going to be a rough looking 'industrial' kind of finish so the blade wasn't taken to a very high polish...

    Making 'micarta'

Thanks for the replys. I know there was a concern I had read once upon a time with lightning strike carbon fiber and people being poked by the wire ends. Something to do with how it was finished I think.
